Out Now – 12th March 2010

If you’re not lucky enough to be going to the Whip It screening down in London tonight you’re going to need to know what’s coming out today in cinemas. Luckily I have that information…

Shutter Island

Scorsese! DiCaprio! A US Marshall finally gets an assignment at the hospital for the criminally insane on Shutter Island. The trailer looks bloody terrifying but apparently the film slows after the start, getting bogged down in lots of dialogue. I reckon it’ll still make me wee myself though and it looks to be a good film so this is my blind pick of the week. Expect the title to be spoken within the first ten minutes.

Green Zone

I am a bit Bourne ignorant but this does not look dissimilar. Set around the search for WMDs in Baghdad Paul Greengrass directs Matt Damon through lots of action scenes punctuated with talky bits. Expect shaky cam, lots of shaky cam.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Something the trailer skirts around is that this is a Swedish film and you will have to do a bit of reading. The girl in question is a computer hacker who helps a journalist investigate the forty year old disappearance of a teenage girl. This investigation looks to involve at least one explosion. Expect… confusion.

Hachi: A Dog’s Tale

A rarity with it’s “U” rating, Hachi stars Richard Gere as a man who adopts a puppy. Expect not much else of consequence to happen.
