Magic Mike
I don’t know what to make of Magic Mike. On the one hand it looks like a cheap excuse to get Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey to spend almost two hours with their shirts off and their chests glistening with oil and manly, manly sweat. On the other, much smaller and less obvious, hand director Steven Soderbergh has a back catalogue veering wildly from films like Ocean’s Eleven to Thirteen through Solaris, Erin Brockovich, and Traffic through to recent releases Haywire and Contagion. Soderbergh is completely unpredictable. Also worth noting that reviews are 77% positive. All I know is that the marketing material makes the film look incredibly cheap and degrading to men. We aren’t just meat you know. Besides, I haven’t gone to ogle at Emma Stone in The Amazing Spider-Man yet…
