Hutcherson Can’t Do Anything a Spider Can

It seems we and the rest of the internet got a bit ahead of ourselves when declaring Josh Hutcherson as the new Spiderman, because he isn’t. Phew.

Instead we have the 27 year old Andrew Garfield who can actually act. Hurray! You may remember him from two bad episodes of Doctor Who set in New York and in Red Riding where everyone was a proper good actor.

I have regained my confidence in Marc Webb and am a bit excited about the film. It’s amazing how different the casting of two people I don’t really remember can have on me but I’m pretty sure this is a better choice.

We (Allegedly) Have A Spiderman!

Seeings as our first ever post was all about the Spiderman reboot it’s only right we cover the potential casting of the ultra-hormonal lead. Ladies and gentlemen we give you Josh Hutcherson in a totally unconfirmed way.

Films he’s been in that I’ve seen include the not as dissapointing as expected Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant and the utterly devastating Bridge to Terabithia. Seriously, watch Terabithia and try not to cry.

He’s not my first choice but then I’m not a major fan of any 17 year old actors so can’t really offer any alternatives. While previously we all knew the reboot would be set during high school it is only now that it hits home just how youth targeted this film could be. Could be. Hutcherson might not even get the part… This isn’t news!

Cameron Tangles with Spiderman’s Webb

Two days ago MTV reported that James Cameron had met with Marc Webb to discuss the 3D possibilities for the new Spiderman reboot. I was going to let it slide but considering Mild Concern’s coverage of both the new Spiderman and James Cameron, and a nudge from @dtdwhedon, it had to get a mention. Read more »

Webb for Spiderman

As I had hoped Marc Webb, director of (500) Days of Summer, has been confirmed as the director of the High School set Spiderman reboot. Rumour has it he will be making a whole new trilogy, we’ll see if he makes all three or if this is another Superman Returns.

This is exactly the news I needed to get behind the Spiderman reboot, and look forward to all the potential puns. Now we wait to see who will be the new Spiderman…

500 Days of Spiderman

Since news broke of the Spiderman reboot many names have been floated around for both the role of director and that of Peter Parker himself. Two that have really stuck out for me are Mark Webb and Joseph Gorden Levitt, director and star of (500) Days of Summer respectively. While I can imagine plenty of fan uproar at the suggestion of Mark Webb I believe his debut feature showed a strong visual style and real diversity. Levitt has recently shown through a varied spectrum of roles just have versatile an actor he is, far more than just the child star he started out as.

Speaking not as a Spiderman fanboy but as a film buff either of these two being attached to the new Spiderman project could really get me excited.
